Directions: Use these guidelines to complete your current events assignment. They will help you to remember to include all the important items needed to achieve a great grade! You may choose any topic that interests you in the newspaper or a magazine. If you have any questions, ask me right away. This is a great way for you to express your opinion about something that matters to you.
Part One: 40 points Identify the following: People - Who are they? (name and/or title) What is thier job or position? (describe their duties or purpose) Why are they included in this article? (What issue are they involved in and why)
Place - Where is the group, organization, etc. located in relation to you?
Theme (Main Idea) - What are the central issues detailed in the article? (conflicts, decisions, etc.)
Resolution - How did the organization or people involved resolve the issue? If there has been no reslolution, what is currently happening?
Part Two: 42 points Make sure that you answer the following questions: 1. When did the story occur? 2. What is it about the story that interests you? 3. How will you, your family, your communtiy be affected by the issues discussed in this story? 4. How do YOU feel about the issues discussed in this story? 5. How do you thnk the story will resolve itself, or do you think the resolution will be successful? 6. If you could be the one to resolve it what would you do?
Part Three: 18 points 1. Student must provide the article or articles they used to prepare their presentation. Make sure to include the name of the newspaper/magazine and the date. These will be displayed on the current events board in the classroom. 2. Students must make a presentation, of not more than 5 minutes, that includes the information above. 3. Students must turn the written answers to the questions in part 2.
